Andre Ward officially added to Cotto-Canelo card

‘Son of God’ is heading to ‘Sin City’ for his next fight.

Thursday, Roc Nation announced on its website Andre ‘S.O.G.’ Ward’s next fight will be against Alexander Brand on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas.

This will be the first fight for Ward (28-0, 15 KO), an Oakland native, in Las Vegas. It will also be his first fight in the light heavyweight division. His bout against Brand (24-1, 19 KO) will share the ring and the marquee with the Miguel Cotto-Canelo Alvarez pay-per-view fight at Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Ward, the 2004 Olympic gold medalist, made his debut with Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports in June against Paul Smith. Returning from nearly a two-year layoff, Ward earned a ninth round TKO victory in front of his hometown at Oracle Arena.

The fight will mark the first fight of a new three-fight deal between Ward and HBO. Assuming Ward is successful in the first two fights, the goal for HBO is to eventually match Ward up with light heavyweight kingpin Sergey Kovalev in late 2016.

“HBO is the premier network in boxing and has been a great home to me both as a fighter and a commentator,” Ward said on the website. “I made my professional debut on HBO nearly 11 years ago and I’m excited to move on to this next stage of my career at the light heavyweight division on HBO. My team and I have been hard at work preparing for Nov. 21 and the fans can expect another strong performance in Las Vegas.”
