Artur Beterbiev (10-0, 10 KOs), who was on the shelf for nearly a year following shoulder surgery, returned on Saturday night and stopped Ezequiel Maderna in the fourth round of the Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN telecast.
The 31-year old Russian (fighting out of Montreal), punished Maderna early on with straight rights and a sustained body attack, finally sending him to the canvas in the third round after two solid rights. Moments after getting to his feet, Maderna was met by another onslaught of punches from Beterbiev, before going down again.
Maderna, who spit out his mouthpiece following the second knockdown, was deducted a point by referee Marlon B. Wright for purposely delaying the action.
Then in the fourth, Beterbiev landed a thumping right hand that sent Maderna down again, and then one more time after getting to his feet, prompting Maderna’s corner to throw in the towel.
”I am really satisfied by my performance,” said Beterbiev. “I want to thank my team for their patience during my inactivity.”
