On April 23, Gennady Golovkin will defend his middleweight title against Dominic Wade, while Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez defends his flyweight title against McWilliams Arroyo.

Who the opponents will be is no consequence at this point, as Golovkin and Gonzalez will for the third time, share top billing in what has turned into must-see TV.  According to Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, the HBO-televised doubleheader has already sold over 8,000 tickets.

“We’ve sold over 8,000 tickets in just the first week of being on sale,” said Loeffler. “This is the best pairing in boxing and fans have seen how fast tickets moved at our past shows in Los Angeles and New York City and don’t want to take a chance on missing out.”

The Fabulous Forum, where the card will take place, can seat a little over 16,000 fans and the duo of GGG and Chocolatito have become a hot ticket.  Golovkin as fight fans know, is always a punch away from knocking his opponent out, but also has the ability of inflicting punishment deep into a fight.  Meanwhile, hardcore boxing fans already knew Gonzalez was one of boxing’s best kept secrets until he made his HBO debut last year and opened a lot of eyes to his sizzling style.

“Gennady and Roman were each dominant in their knockout performances on October 17 and we sold out Madison Square Garden with 20,548 fans in attendance,” added Loeffler. “Last May 16, at our first event at the Fabulous Forum 12,732 tickets were sold. Right now were on pace to have another sold out arena of over 16,000 tickets on April 23. This would be the first sellout of the Fabulous Forum for a boxing event since 1970.”

With two months to go before the doubleheader, it seems clear that this will be another huge event with a hot crowd to boot.
