Breazeale scores a TKO over Vargas

Former Olympian Devin Vargas was competitive early against fellow Olympian Dominic Breazeale in their heavyweight bout.
Although Breazeale was controlling the action and scoring clean to the head and body, Vargas landed some clean heat shots in the first and second rounds, and then complained of hits to the back of the head.
This ultimately caused the end to the bout in round three as Vargas turned his back after complaining about a shot to the back of the head from Breazeale, (who improved to 11-0 with 9KO) after the referee waived off the bout as Vargas turned his back to the action.
3MR spoke with Vargas.
“I thought I started off good in the first round. I think I won the first round,” said Vargas, who had two visible bruises on the back of his head.
“He hit me in the back of my head (in the second).”
On the knockdown: “It was more of a push.”
“I pressed him in the third round,” said Vargas, who is also a former Olympian.
I wish it would have went on,” as he felt Breazeale had nothing on his punches
I don’t agree with the stoppage.”
Vargas wants a rematch.
