Erislandy Lara and Canelo Alvarez have both made it no secret that there is animosity between the two. However, both men were all business at the final press conference on Thursday.

Lara, along with his team, appeared on the press conference dais as cool and confident as he can be. While he has done a lot of pre-fight smack talk, he acknowledged that the time for all that is over.

“There’s nothing more to say,” Lara said. “We’re ready.”

Lara gave a shout out to all of his sparring partners, including a couple of top prospects who were helping him prepare for Canelo.

“I want to thank the Charlo brothers for helping me in camp.”

Canelo was as serious as can be and I noticed that he appeared to look a little irritated up on the dais. He also kept his final statements short and to the point.

“I’m very anxious for it to be July 12 already. My body is asking to fight,” Canelo said. “See you Saturday.”

Alvarez also talked with the media after the conference and showed the respect he has for Lara.

“A lot of people don’t know who Lara is,” Canelo said. “But he’s the most dangerous fighter at 154 pounds.”

The undercard fighters were also on hand for the presser, including the returning Abner Mares. The former WBC featherweight champion is motivated to be back in the ring after almost a year since his knockout loss to Jhonny Gonzalez.

I’m very excited to return after 11 months,” Mares said. “I’m back with even more hunger.”

“I still have a lot left,” Mares said. “I’m only 28. I’ve been a world champion three times and I still have more to win.”

His opponent, Jonathan Oquendo, was equally confident. Oquendo has won 10 of his last 11 fights. He knows a win over Mares would take his career to a new level.

“I know the talent that Abner Mares has and I’ve prepared very well for him,” Oquendo said. “Puerto Rico vs Mexico is always a great fight.”

Here are some quotes from the rest of the undercard fighters:

Juan Manuel Lopez

“This is the fourth time I fight in Las Vegas. I won the first three by knockout here and I’m looking to continue that this Saturday.”

Francisco Vargas

“I’m motivated to give a good fight and a great show. I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”

Johan Perez

“I’m prepared to do my job. I want to give a good show for these fans because they deserve it.”

Mauricio Herrera

“I’m thankful for this opportunity to be on such a great card. Johan Perez is not an easy fight and I hope to give you all a great show.”
