Heading into his May 7 HBO pay per view bout, WBC middleweight title holder Canelo Alvarez stated to the press this week that he has prepared with a solid fight camp, dismisses those critical of the weight difference between he and opponent Amir Khan and admitted he will have his eye on a possible future opponent who will be fighting this weekend, Gennady Golovkin.

“There’s always going to be critics. There’s people supporting you and there’s always people that are against you. I really don’t worry about that,” says Canelo regarding a weight differential. “It doesn’t really bother me. I really don’t think about it. At the end of the day, it’s going to be a great event and I’m going to be ready for the fight.”

The interim WBC title holder, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin will face unknown Dominic Wade this weekend on HBO and ‘Kid Cinnamon’ will be watching.

“… I’ll watch it. I’ll sit down and watch it. If not, I’ll probably record it and watch it later. I follow boxing, so yeah, most likely I’m going to watch it.”

As for facing GGG following his tilt against Khan May 7, Alvarez has remained steadfast that he is willing to face the undefeated Kazakh power puncher.

“That fight’s going to happen. It’s going to have to happen. The fight is eventually going to happen. But I’m watching it because I’m a fan, I’m a boxing fan, and I like to watch it. It’s what we do when we’re in training camp. We try to watch all the fights that are televised when we have time to watch them.”

Alvarez faces Khan live on HBO pay per view live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 7.
