Ding ding ding!!!

3MR readers, its Fight of the Year candidate time!!!

While it remains to be played out in the ring with leather flying, the buzz around Orlando Salido and Francisco Vargas has the boxing world buzzing as the two will meet for the WBC super featherweight strap in Carson, California in an HBO televised event tomorrow.

Enough with the particulars, lets get to it!!!

EXPERIENCE

It will be Salido leading the experience category as the crafty veteran has seen and done it all in a career that has spanned nearly two decades that began when Salido was a mere teenager.

The match against Vargas will be Salido’s 61st pro bout and Vargas, while undefeated, has only a third of Salido’s total fights.

Vargas did face some adversity in his last fight, the consensus Fight of The Year for 2015 when he faced Takashi Miura. Vargas was dropped in the fourth, yet battled back and was on the verge of being knocked down again when he was able to outland Miura and win the title in the ninth.  Vargas will look to ride this momentum into Saturday, yet if he shows Salido any weaknesses, expect Salido to know exactly how to capitalize.

ADVANTAGE: SALIDO

POWER

When it comes to KO’s, Salido has more (30) than Vargas has fights (23), yet that may be a deceptive statistic. Salido hasn’t registered a knockout in nearly two years, and Vargas is riding a four fight KO/stoppage streak extending back to 2014.

It very well may be Vargas who will land the stronger punches on fight night with Salido looking to counter and set traps for the younger fighter.

ADVANTAGE: VARGAS

And we’ll leave it at that 3MR readers, as the fight is just about as close as you are going to get to a 50/50 matchup and there are so many ways to see the fight playing out, so just sit back and enjoy the fights tomorrow night!

The undercard also features up and coming Golden Boy Promotions prospects Nick Arce and Christian Gonzalez, and GBP fighters Julian Ramirez and Abraham Lopez going head to head in the nights co-main event.

Veteran Gabriel Rosado will also be featured in a middleweight attraction.
