Golovkin-Rubio approaching a sellout for Oct. 18
- Updated: September 8, 2014
Saying ‘Gennady Golovkin doesn’t bring in money’ is no longer a valid excuse.
Tickets for the Golovkin vs Rubio event at the StubHub Center are already over 50% sold despite having only been on sale for a little over a week.
“Since putting tickets on sale last Wednesday during the Los Angeles Press Conference at Olvera Street we’ve seen sales skyrocket, this is the fastest selling boxing event that’s been held at the StubHub Center” said Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions. “I strongly encourage boxing fans to purchase tickets in advance so they don’t miss out on this great night of boxing.”
StubHub Center and Southern California in general may be a hotbed for boxing, but not every boxer is capable of selling the venue out. Just ask Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The Mexican fighter saw many empty seats in Carson for his fight with Bryan Vera last September.
Golovkin already proved his drawing power in July when he filled up a good portion of Madison Square Garden for his fight with Daniel Geale. If that event was any indication of his his next fight will go, the StubHub Center should have no problems reaching a complete sellout.
With a record of 30-0 with 27 knockouts, Golovkin will be looking to make the 12th defense of his WBA middleweight title against Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51 KO.)
Golovkin vs Rubio takes place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California on October 17. The event will be broadcast live on HBO.
