Guerrero, Garcia ready to rumble
Boxing will finally return live to primetime Fox this weekend as Danny Garcia faces Robert Guerrero on Saturday from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Both fighters were amped up during fight week as both camps traded barbs prior to the two fighters exchanging punches for the vacant WBC welterweight title at 147 pounds.
“I want to thank Ruben Guerrero because he’s awakened the devil. I can’t wait for Saturday night to show the world what Danny Garcia is all about. I feel fast, I feel strong and I’ll see everyone Saturday.”
Guerrero took a shot at Angel Garcia and suggested he may be ready to end matters on his own on fight night.
“Same thing that happened to Andre Berto is going to happen to Danny. His dad better be ready to throw the towel in.”
Father and trainer Garcia is known to be the outspoken type and engaged in more than a few memorable exchanges with Guerrero’s trainer/father, Ruben. However, father Garcia seems focused on his son winning the WBC strap and continuing on in that weight class in 2016.
“Danny is going to be the new champion of the world Saturday night. After that we’re going after the other belts. Fight night is going to be about Danny and Robert.”
Robert Guerrero, who faced off against Floyd Mayweather in May 2013 for the same WBC title he will face Garcia for, discussed the trash talk that occurred during fight week and seems to be intent on winning yet another title in a different weight class.
“All the talking is done. He said he’s going to knock me out…well we’re going to see. I’m ready to represent the Mexican people and bring the fans a great, action-packed fight.”
The undercard features Sammy Vasquez taking on Aron Martinez, and a heavyweight tilt with former Olympian Dominic Breazeale taking on Amir Mansour.
Fox goes live on the West Coast at 5 pm.
