Manny Pacquiao likely returning to 140 pounds

Manny Pacquiao faces Chris Algeri next month at a catch weight of 144 in Macau, China, and word is Pacquiao will be looking to step into the junior-welterweight ranks in 2015.
“There’s a lot of competition in the 140-pound division, a lot of them are going to 147 because they want to fight Manny for the bigger money but as soon as Manny goes to 140 all of those will come back down,” said Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach from the Wild Card Boxing gym this weekend, where his fighter sparred for his upcoming WBO title defense.
Pacquiao, (56-5-2, 38 KO) last fought at 140 against Ricky Hatton in 2009, and from there the Philippine Congressman moved up to 147, then 154 in claiming titles in those divisions.
It’s this reason that Roach cites regarding the move.
“He’s never been a big puncher at 147,” said Roach. “I don’t think he’s lost his punch or his killer instinct; he’s just been fighting bigger, stronger guys. I think the knockouts will still start coming again at 140.”
Roach mentioned current undefeated WBC and WBA junior-welterweight champion Danny Garcia as a possible opponent for Pacquiao’s move to 140.
