Mikey Garcia relinquishes WBO title

Mikey Garcia (34-0, 28 KOs) has vacated his WBO junior lightweight title, according to the organization.
Garcia has been out of action since January and is currently involved in a dispute with promoter Top Rank, which has kept him out of the ring instead of facing Orlando Salido in a mandatory fight.
According to RingTV, Garcia says that he has been having trouble making weight and was planning on going up to another division anyway.
“I would have had a couple of title defenses, maybe, but it’s been really, really hard to make weight. It was so hard to make the weight against Burgos, anyway, that I was already planning to move up in weight class anyway,” said Garcia.
Whenever Garcia returns to the ring, he will be looking to do so at 140 pounds. He initially won the title by stopping then-champ Roman Martinez in November 2013, before defending it once against Juan Carlos Burgos on Jan. 25.
Orlando Salido, who had the interim title, has been elevated to full champion.
