Mora squeezes by Han with split decision win

Former junior middleweight titlist Sergio Mora (28-3-2, 9 KOs) stayed in the title hunt on Friday night after earning a split decision win over Abie Han(23-2, 14 KOs) at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Mora was a little busier at the start, which played a huge part in the decision, jabbing and landing hard hooks from the outside.  However, Han stepped on the gas later in the fight, putting Mora down in the 10th round and causing a cut over his right eye.  Ultimately though, Han’s late rally was just that – late, as Mora would still come away with the victory with scores of 114-113, 115-112 (Han) and 115-112.

Earlier in the night, Erickson Lubin (9-0, 6 KOs) remained unbeaten with a dominating performance over Michael Finney (12-2-1, 10 KOs) who simply did not have enough skills to hang.  Finney, who took the fight on one day’s notice tried his best to work the body but Lubin was too quick, and busted up his face over eight rounds.  Scores were 80-72 from all three judges.

In the opening bout, Ahmed Elbiale (9-0, 9 KOs) stopped Dustin Echard (10-1, 7 KOs) in the second round. Elbiale floored Echard with a barrage of punches, sending him out of the ring and onto the apron.  Though he made it back in the ring, the fight was waved off moments later.
