Ali stops Abregu in 9

At Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Sadam Ali 21-0 (12 KOs) defeated Luis Carlos Abregu 36-3 (29 KOs) by TKO in round 9 – the official time was 1:54.
Serving as the co-featured bout to the light heavyweight unification bout between Bernard Hopkins and Sergey Kovalev, the fight got off to a slow start with the slick Ali utilizing lateral movement and attacking in spots, while Abregu attempted to walk down the former U.S. Olympian.
After four rather uneventful rounds, a picture-perfect lead overhand right from Ali dropped Abregu in the fifth and the Argentine was lucky to escape the round on his feet.
The knockdown seemed to trigger a sense of urgency in Abregu as he upped the pressure in the sixth and seventh rounds, while Ali looked to be in survival mode.
In a wild ninth, Ali hurt and dropped Abregu who got to his feet on shaky legs, but a follow-up attack by Ali forced referee Harvey Doc to call a halt to the bout.
