Andy Lee (34-2, 24 KOs) finally won his first world title on Dec. 13, when he knocked out the previously unbeaten Matt Korobov in the sixth round. Now Lee must defend his title against Billy Joe Saunders, according to the WBO.
The organization says Lee’s camp has until Jan. 12 to come to an agreement with Saunders’ side or a purse-bid will be ordered. The minimum purse bid will be $200,000, with Lee set to make 75% of the purse.
Saunders (21-0, 11 KOs) earned his title shot with a split-decision win over Chris Eubank Jr. in a title eliminator.
Saunders is promoted by Frank Warren Promotions, while Lee is with Top Rank.
