Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is setting up rising lightweight prospect Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta for a possible fight on the undercard of the Brandon Rios-Yuriorkis Gamboa WBA lightweight championship showdown at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, but that’s just the beginning of it.
The Filipino boxer’s trainer/manager, Vincent Parra, told The Ring as much.
Gesta (24-0, 12 KOs), with some experienced but marginal competition on his ledger thus far, would probably be given another chance to simply showcase his talents. Parra made it clear, though, that what Arum has in store for him next “will take everybody by surprise.”
Living in San Diego, CA, the 24-year-old native of Cebu, Philippines is willing to fight the winner of the above-mentioned main event, while already having called out one half of it (Rios) in a back-and-forth media exchange.
“It’s not Rios,” Parra however says.
