Former two-time welterweight titlist Andre Berto is putting the final touches on his training camp in Hayward, Calif., as he gets set to head out on Monday to Cincinnati, where he will take on Steve Upsher Chambers on Sep. 6.
Berto (28-3, 22 KOs) has been out of action since July 2013, when he suffered a 12th round TKO after suffering a shoulder injury.
“The shoulder is feeling good and we’ve had a tremendous camp. I was able to get out here really early for this fight and train with all the great champions in our gym. I’m just excited to get back under the lights and perform on September 6,” Berto said.
Training at Virgil Hunter’s gym, Berto has also been training alongside Andre Ward, Alfredo Angulo and Amir Khan, who all train with Hunter.
“It was good to be able to be there to support those guys. I learned something from each one of them. Now it’s my turn and I’m ready to go out there and put on a show in Cincinnati,” Berto said.
Berto’s clash against Chambers will be televised on Showtime on the undercard of Adrien Broner’s clash against Emanuel Taylor.
