Brook injured: Chaves fight postponed
- Updated: October 16, 2015
Kell Brook has come down with an injury in training camp and has been forced to postponed his welterweight title defense against Diego Chaves, which was to have taken place on October 24.
According to his promoter Eddie Hearn, Brook injured his rib while sparring and after seeking medical advice, the decision was made to move the fight to later in the year.
The show itself, which takes place in Sheffield, England, will still go on as Chris Eubank Jr. is now headlining the card, taking on Tony Jeter, while Gavin McDonnell defends his title against Jeremy Parodi.
“It’s always a bitter blow when an injury causes a fight to be postponed, especially so close to the event,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Kell picked up a rib injury in sparring yesterday and spent most of the day at hospital yesterday. Kell was desperate to fight but it was simply impossible and we will now look to reschedule the bout for the end of the year.”
Matchroom Boxing will make a separate announcement on Monday regarding information on full refunds and partial refunds to those fans still attending the show.
