Cleverly stops Corbin in 2
- Updated: May 17, 2014
Nathan Cleverly made his return to the ring tonight in Cardiff City, fighting for the first time since losing his light heavyweight title to Sergey Kovalev, as he battled Shawn Corbin in a cruiserweight bout.
Cleverly used the jab to setup his punches in the first round, as he looked to figure out Corbin’s style. In the second round though, Cleverly began landing his right hand and a right uppercut hurt Corbin, sending him teetering towards the ropes. Cleverly then opened up and connected with a right and a left hook that had him in trouble again. After another pair of uppercuts, Corbin was ready to go and the referee waved it off, with no arguments from Corbin or his corner.
“At light heavyweight I felt I had nothing left and I feel good now and refreshed. Here we are at cruiserweight and one or two more [before challenging Bellew]. The fight fans want to see blood matches and when it happens it’s going to be explosive.”
