Miguel Cotto finally has an opponent for his June 6 return at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, as he’ll take on Daniel Geale in defense of his middleweight championship on HBO.

Roc Nation, which now co-promotes Cotto, made the announcement yesterday, along with Cotto himself.

“We’re excited and proud to bring Miguel Cotto back to New York along with Miguel Cotto Promotions, now as a part of the Roc Nation Sports family,” said David Itskowitch, COO of Roc Nation Sports’ boxing division. “Brooklyn and boxing have a long history, and Puerto Rican heritage is closely integrated with both. What a way for New York to kick off the week of the Puerto Rican Day Parade festivities — with Miguel Cotto’s long-awaited return to the ring.”

Though Cotto is closely associated with Madison Square Garden, the fight at the Barclays Center will be his first at the venue and Cotto is happy to be fighting once again in New York.

“It’s going to be great to be at a new place in New York,” Cotto said. “My fans are in New York and I love fighting there.”

According to ESPN, the fight will take place at a catchweight of 157 pounds, and should Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) win, he would be in line to then face Canelo Alvarez in the fall, assuming Alvarez defeats James Kirkland on May 9.
