Farenas stops Davis in IBF featherweight eliminator

Last night on a special Wednesday edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights, Michael Farenas (38-4-4, 30 KOs) scored an eighth round TKO over the previously unbeaten Mark Davis (18-1, 5 KOs) in an IBF junior lightweight eliminator at Foxwods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn.
Farenas got off to a good start when he opened up a cut over the right eye of Davis with a punch in the first round and the Filipino continued applying pressure and landing quick combinations. Davis would try to use his speed to throw pitter-patter punches but they would have no effect on Farenas.
In the fifth round, Farenas stunned Davis, while the sixth round was another beat down round. In the seventh, Davis was fighting defensive as he was looked at by the doctor between rounds and after another lopsided round in the eighth, referee Steve Smoger called it off at :59 of the round.
In the co-featured bout, former IBF featherweight titlist Billy Dib (37-3, 21 KOs) scored a ten round decision over Alberto Garza (26-8-1, 21 KOs) in a somewhat competitive but yawn-inducing contest.
The night’s action started off with junior welterweights Ryan Martin and Matthew Baca competing in a four rounder, which went Martin’s way with 40-36 score from all three judges.
