- Updated: February 17, 2012
The 2012 boxing calender year just keeps getting better and better, with the just-announced fight between Yuriokis Gamboa and Brandon Riose finally signed and set for April 14 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
The HBO televised event pits two undefeated fighters both under the Top Rank banner against each other in what is going to be a surefire firework type fight for the vacant WBA 135-pound strap.
The World Championship Boxing portion of HBO will handle the affairs.
The fight was originally scheduled for March 3 in Carson,California, albeit with the fighters facing other opponents. After that fight fallout, a few weeks passed and now boxing hardcore junkie type fans should be jumping out of their gym shoes for this match up.
Top Rank sure knows what it has on its hands. President Todd duBoef sure does.
“Rios and Gamboa are two young and hungry fighters in their prime looking to make a leap to stardom.”
HBO’s VP Kery Davis is even throwing in his praises.
“Brandon Rios versus Yuriorkis Gamboa is a spectacular fight and we’re excited to present this showdown live on HBO World Championship Boxing. Both fighters deserve recognition for stepping up and saying ‘let’s do it.’ ”
Ticket sale details will be forthcoming.
