Roberto García (36-3, 23 KOs) earned a 10-round unanimous decision win over Breidis Prescott (27-6, 20 KOs) in the main event on ESPN Friday Night Fights from Chicago, Ill.
Garcia did a fairly good job of staying out of range of Prescott’s power punches, while boxing smartly and building up points in thie early going. Perhaps sensing he was behind, Prescott turned up the pressure in the ninth round, where he scored a knockdown, but ultimately it was too little, too late. Scores were 96-93, 95-94 and 96-92 for Garcia.
In the co-featured bout, Caleb Truax (23-1-2, 14 KOs) scored a clear-cut 10-round unanimous decision over Derek Ennis (24-4-1, 13 KOs). Scores were 97-93, 97-93 and 99-90 for the welterweight bout.
The opening bout saw unbeaten light heavyweight Mike Lee (13-0, 7 KOs) earn a much-needed six round majority decision win over Paul Gonsalves (7-4, 3 KOs). Lee, who is perhaps better known for being on Subway commercials than fighting these days, was coming off a year and a half hiatus due to a bulging disc in his back. Lee controlled the action, landing combinations from the inside, though Gonsalves at times, found the range with his left hook, which busted up Lee’s nose.
In the fourth round, Lee buzzed Gonsalves with a right hand to the chin that clearly earned him the round.
Scores were 57-57, 58-56 and 58-56 for Lee.
