Mercito Gesta (28-1-1, 16 KOs) earned his second straight win since his first pro loss to IBF lightweight titlist Miguel Vazquez, with a TKO win over Luis Arceo (28-13-4, 19 KOs) on Friday night at the Longshoreman’s Hall in San Francisco.
Gesta was aggressive from the start, in what was the main event of Golden Boy Promotion’s card on Fox Sports 1. Though Arceo continued to come forward, he was taking quite a bit of punishment form Gesta who had no trouble finding his opponent’s face.
After Gesta put a beating on Arceo in the seventh round, the fight was eventually stopped before the start of the eighth.
In the co-feature, unbeaten junior welterweight Emanuel Robles (11-0-1, 3 KOs) just managed to retain his ‘0’ with a split decision win over Jonathan Chicas (13-2, 6 KOs). It was a very close fight between the two, but a knockdown in the seventh round in Robles’ favor, turned out to be the deciding factor. Scores were 76-75, 76-75 (Robles) and 76-75 for Chicas.
In his pro debut, massive Chinese heavyweight Taishan, made quick work of Alex Rozman (2-7, 1 KO), who could barely stand up to the jab. Taishan floored Rozman once in the first round and then twice in the second, before the fight was called off.
