Guerrero-Thurman, Broner-Molina set for March 7

Al Haymon’s foray into the promotional business appears to have its first show lined up.
Haymon’s new boxing series, “Premier Boxing Champions” will begin on March 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The headliner will feature a welterweight showdown between Robert Guerrero and Keith Thurman.
Guerrero (32-2-1, 18 KO) last fought in July of 2014 when he was involved in an entertaining scrap against Yoshihiro Kamegai. That was his only fight of the year. Of course the previous year saw Guerrero drop a decision to Floyd Mayweather.
Thurman (24-0, 21 KO) had two fights in 2014, a third round stoppage of Julio Diaz in April, followed by a one-sided unanimous decision victory against Leonard Bundu just last month.
Also being reported for the co-feature is a junior welterweight bout between Adrien Broner and John Molina.
After suffering the first loss of his career against Marcos Maidana back in December of 2013, Broner (29-1, 22 KO) has bounced back with decision wins over Carlos Molina and Emmanuel Taylor.
The 32-year-old Molina (27-5, 22 KO) is winless in his last two fights, though both fights were close and entertaining. He was knocked out in the eleventh round in April against Lucas Matthysse and found himself on the losing end of a unanimous decision against Humberto Soto on the Mayweather-Maidana II undercard.
Perhaps the biggest news in all of this is that the card will air on NBC. The broadcast will begin at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
Al Haymon has been criticized for giving his fighters some “soft touches” over the past year, but a card like this on free television deserves praise for the rarely-seen boxing manager.
