Herrera stops Gonzalez

Golden Boy Promotions ‘LA Fight Club’ once again took over the newly revamped Belasco Theatre in downtown Los Angeles for a night of fisticuffs on 4th of July weekend 2015.

In the night’s main event, late replacement Hervinson Herrera went for broke against house fighter Gilberto Gonzalez. Herrera loaded up and almost punched himself out early on.

Round two was an explosive one as Gonzalez was caught with a big punch, but the Mexico City native answered back in big fashion later in the round.

In the third, a tie up caused an injury to the right knee of Gonzalez. After some time to recover, Gonzalez, (26-3, 21KO) continued to fight and eventually scored the stoppage win.

Diego De La Hoya continued to impress as he scored a TKO victory over opponent Jose Estrella in the night’s co-main event.

After landing to both the head and body early, some uppercuts really got Estrella hurt and ready to go.

In the fourth, a flurry of shots ended matters and referee Lou Moret stepped in at 2:36.

In the night’s TV opener, Oscar Negrete, (11-0, 3KO) outworked opponent Ramiro Robles in an eight round featherweight fight.

Robles had a come-forward philosophy yet neglected his defense in doing so, allowing Negrete to swing away and land most of what he threw. The Guanajuato, Mexico native was willing yet limited as the more skillful Negrete was able to get the nod via UD at 80-72 once, and 79-73 times two.

Things got underway when Emilio Sanchez took on Jose Cen-Torres in a featherweight bout that was as competitive as an opening bout you could see.

The veteran of the two, Cen-Torres (13-8, 1KO), consistently cut the ring off and landed the better punches throughout, forcing the

Sanchez (9-0, 6 KO), almost had Torres out towards the end of the first round, but Cen-Torres dug deep, battled back and made Sanchez step back in an exciting opening round.

As the rounds wore on, both fighters continued to trade in the middle of the ring, each scoring their own successful shots with neither wishing to take a step backward.

The judges favored the blue corner as Sanchez was awarded his 9th win to stay undefeated by the scorecards of 60-54, 59-55 and 58-56.
