Daniel Jacobs (29-1, 26 KOs) scored a second round stoppage tonight on the Premier Boxing Champions card on ESPN over former titlist Sergio Mora (28-3-2, 9 KOs) in defense of his middleweight belt.
Jacobs got off to a good start in the first, when he connected with a counter right hand that put Mora down on the canvas about midway through the round. Mora however landed with a sharp left hook moments later that caught Jacobs by surprise and sent him down.
The two would finish the round trading punches to the delight of everyone expecting a tactical fight.
In the second, Jacobs came out aggressively and caught Mora along the ropes with an overhand right that sent Mora down, but unfortunately folder over his right ankle, which he ended up injuring. Mora still made it to his feet but was unable to continue as he told the referee he had hurt his ankle.
“My ankle’s broken, I can guarantee you that,” said Mora afterward.
