Jermell Charlo (28-0, 13 KOs) joined his brother Jermall Charlo tonight as the only twins to hold a title in the same division, as Charlo scored an eighth-round stoppage over John Jackson (20-3, 15 KOs) for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title.

Jackson, who is the son of former two-division champion Julian “The Hawk” Jackson, did well early on, as he moved effectively, countered and made Charlo miss frequently.  The three judges apparently saw the same thing as they had Jackson winning 69-64 across the board at the time of the stoppage.

However, Charlo began to pick up the pace in the 5th round, landing some clean left hooks in the process, and Jackson’s punch output began to drop, despite his ability to continue landing counter punches.

Then in the eighth round, Charlo connected with an overhand right to the eye/temple area that shellshocked Jackson, who turned his back and ate another big shot to the head before falling to the ropes, prompting referee Tony Weeks to stop the fight.
