Wladimir Klitschko scored his 17th consecutive title defense with a fifth round knockout of Kubrat Pulev at the O2 Arena in Hamburg, Germany on Saturday night.

Klitschko (63-3, 53 KOs) looked immaculate, as he fought effectively from the outside, but maintained poise, as he drilled Pulev (20-1, 11 KOs) with pulverizing left hooks.  In the first round, Klitschko landed a lead left hook that sent Pulev crashing down.  Pulev managed to get up but was a tad wobbly, though he tried to play it off by showboating a little bit.  Moments later, Klitschko landed another left hook that sent his opponent down again.

After a tentative second round, Klitschko went on the attack again in the third, and another left hook put down Pulev again.  It would be a recurring theme in the fight, as Klitschko’s lefts were proving to be too much for the Bulgarian to handle.

In the fifth round, Pulev landed a straight right hand, which was his best punch of the fight, but shortly after, Klitschko connected with a picturesque left hook to the cheek that put Pulev down for good. Time was 2:11.

The 38-year old champ will now head back to the U.S., where his girlfriend and actress Hayden Panettiere (Remember the Titans, Heroes) is eight months pregnant.
