Lomanchenko defeats Russell for first world title

Vasyl Lomachenko is now the WBO featherweight champion after outworking and outpointing Gary Russell Jr. in their semi-main event title fight.
Lomachenko won by the following scores:
114-114 draw, 116-112 twice for Lomachenko.
The fight started out tactical, with both Lomachenko and Russell Jr. circling and landing measured shots. As the fight warmed up, the fighters became more apt to trade with Lomachenko throwing more combinations while Russell sought out the body.
Lomachenko started opening up Russell in the ninth, and caught Russell Jr. going backward with a big right hand to end round ten. The final six rounds were all Lomachenko, who finished strong as Russell tried to turn on the jets a few rounds too late.
The former Olympian now becomes a major titlist in only his third professional bout.
