Mares-Santa Cruz a ratings hit for ESPN

Last weekend’s Premier Boxing Champions telecast on ESPN featuring Leo Santa Cruz’ decision win over Abner Mares drew the highest ratings from a boxing audience for the network since 1998.

According to ESPN, the telecast had an average of 1.2M viewers, which was a 30% increase from the last two PBC telecasts.  The previous high was the 1998 telecast featuring Mark Johnson vs. Arthur Johnson.

The telecast peaked at about 1.6M from 12:00-12:15am according to Nielsen.

The Spanish-language telecast on ESPN Deportes averaged 355,000 viewers, peaking at 453,000 from 11:15-11:30 p.m.
