Showtime has just confirmed that the Jan. 16 card featuring Deontay Wilder’s heavyweight title defense against Artur Szpilka, will ow also include a heavyweight contest between Charles Martin and Vyacheslav Glazkov for the vacant IBF title.
The IBF belt became vacant after Tyson Fury was stripped for failing to give Szpilka his mandatory title opportunity, instead opting to move forward with his rematch with Wladimir Klitschko.
“I am looking forward to getting back in the ring and finally getting my opportunity to fight for a world title,” said Glazkov (21-0-1, 13 KOs), who has recent wins over Tomasz Adamek and Steve Cunningham. “I want to thank everyone who helped me get to this place in my career.”
Martin (22-0-1, 20 KOs) has won 12 straight fights by knockout, and is getting his first world title opportunity.
“I’m feeling really blessed to get this opportunity,” said Martin. “I want to become a world champion so I can go down in history as a top heavyweight. Glazkov is a great fighter. He’s undefeated, so I know it’ s going to be a t ough fight, but I’m coming in to be victorious. I’m getting ready and training hard so I can go out there and get that win.”
