Mitchell to face Palma in London; wants Lomanchenko

Mitchell Smith sees bigger fights waiting in the wings at featherweight and is set to go down to the 122-pound division to take on Christian Palma (20-9-1, 6 KOs) on the May 9 show at Wembley Stadium in London.
The 22-year old British contender says he’d like to face current WBO titlist Vasyl Lomanchenko and knows that a win against Palma will help him get closer to that goal.
“I’ll definitely be hitting harder and faster in the featherweights and I’ll be showing just what I can do against Palma,” said Smith.
Though primarily fighting as a junior lightweight, Smith (11-0, 5 KOs) says that making 122 pounds is no issue.
“I can make featherweight comfortably and I’m confident that I can win a world title at the weight, when I set myself a target and I go out and achieve it. I believe that I’ll win a world title at this weight quicker than at super-feather,” added Smith.
“Lomachenko is the WBO world champion and the one that I’ve got my sights on. He’s very slick, but I know I’d find a way to win against him. I’m a good few fights away from him yet, but once I win this title he’ll be lighting up on my radar.”
