Mohammedi Krushed by Kovalev
- Updated: July 25, 2015
Sergey Kovalev retained his title earlier tonight with a knockout win over the grossly overmatched Nadjib Mohammedi at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs) took his time in the first round, looking to establish his range and figure out Mohammedi (37-4, 23 KOs). In the second round, Kovalev dropped Mohammedi with a pair of right hands that had him in serious trouble.
Moments later, Kovalev landed a right and then a left jab that appeared to possibly damage the orbital bone of Mohammedi (who kept pawing at his eye) that sent him to the canvas before getting counted out.
After the fight, Kovalev said he was ready to fight anyone including Andre Ward.
