Looking to continue to build upon what is already a Hall of Fame career, Manny Pacquiao will try to capture another belt when he takes on welterweight titleholder Jessie Vargas on Nov. 5 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KO) announced his retirement shortly after his victory over Timothy Bradley in April. But like we often see in this sport, the Filipino icon still had the itch to fight again. Now a senator in the Philippines, Pacquiao, 37, is looking to prove that he can balance the duties of serving in his country’s senate while still being able to compete in boxing at the highest level.

“This is an important fight for me because this is my first fight since I was elected as a senator,” Pacquiao said. “I respect (Vargas) because he’s a champion so its a big challenge for me to get that belt again and prove I can still manage serving the people while still being a fighter.”

After nearly securing a fight with IBF welterweight titleholder Kell Brook, which ultimately fell through due to Brook choosing to take a fight with middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, Vargas (27-1, 10 KO) landed the biggest fight of his career. Beyond the chance to defend his WBO title, Vargas, who last scored a ninth-round knockout over previously undefeated Sadam Ali in March, believes a win over Pacquiao would prove that he is the best fighter in a division that features stars like Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia, and Errol Spence.

“Manny pacquiao always comes to give you an action-packed fight. I come to give the fans excitement and enjoyment and Manny is the same way,” Vargas said. “I know I am the underdog but the media has had me the underdog more than a handful of times. I fight until the end and i hope soon people will start to respect that. I am a two-divison champ for a reason and I plan to show I am the best in the division and all the other belt holders know I am the real deal.”

Pacquiao vs Vargas will be distributed live by Top Rank pay-per-view. Tickets starting at $50 can be purchased at unlvtickets.com
