Pascal edges Gonzalez in a fun fight
- Updated: July 25, 2015
Former light heavyweight champ Jean Pascal eeked out a unanimous decision win over Yunieski Gonzalez in a 175-pound clash.
Gonzalez (16-1, 12 KOs) came in with little fanfare, but the Cuban surely came to fight, as he buzzed Pascal (30-3-1, 17 KOs) twice in the opening round with clubbing right hands. The two fighters continuously traded punches throughout the fight, with Pascal opting not to use his usual move-and-box style in favor of a more carefree approach.
Pascal did manage to stun Gonzalez with a looping right hand in the seventh as Gonzalez began to tire. Gonzalez did seem to get back into the swing of things late in the fight as he forced Pascal to trade bombs while seemingly outworking him.
After ten rounds however, the judges all agreed that Pascal had done enough, awarding him with scores of 96-94 across the board for the decision win. 3MoreRounds had it 97-93 for Gonzalez.
