Pinoy Pride 30: ‘D-DAY’ set for March 28
- Updated: March 24, 2015
Two of the best world-class Pinoy fighters headline this weekend’s big boxing bonanza in the Philippines, as Nonito Donaire and Donnie Nietes both take center stage.
Donaire and Donnie co-star in D-DAY, as local media giant ABS-CBN amplifies advertisements heading towards fight night to hype up one of the biggest cards taking place in the fight-crazed country in recent memory.
Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire plots his return to the elite echelons of the sport beginning with William Prado of Brazil. A win against Prado (22-4, 15 KOs) would net Donaire (33-3, 21 KOs) a belt (NABF super bantamweight), which merely adds a glitter in the glowing collection of world titles across five-divisions for the Filipino boxing superstar.
Alongside him is Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, who stakes his position at the top of the weight class against Mexican Gilberto Parra. Parra (19-2, 17 KOs) threatens for the WBO Light Flyweight title, a belt that Nietes (34-1-4, 20 KOs) has owned for a record seven years, in addition to The Ring lineal championship of the world.
Before the co-main event, we get to witness “Prince” Albert Pagara as he looks to continue his rise at the expense Rodolfo “FoFo” Hernandez. But the IBF Inter-Continental strap, the title Pagara (22-0, 15 Kos) brandishes at the moment, may be threatened by Mexico’s Hernandez (26-5, 24 KOs) with his astounding knockout percentage.
The latest offering in what is now a scheduled staple for fans looking for excitement and entertainment is of course organized by ALA Promotions, the contemporary force in the game around the region.
The 30th Pinoy Pride event – a historic milestone – takes place at the historic Araneta Coliseum.
