Provodnikov Wants His Crack at Rios or Marquez
- Updated: January 9, 2013
Junior welterweight contender Ruslan Provodnikov (22-1, 15 KOs) is hoping to get a shot at a world title in 2013, as he attempts to track down either Juan Manuel Marquez or Brandon Rios.
Already ranked number-2 by the WBO, Provodnikov is eying Rios, though Rios-Alvarado II is currently in the works.
“I think Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado was a great fight, but Rios won the fight by KO and people would rather see another fight that would be candidate for fight of the year in 2013 against Ruslan Provodnikov than have them fight a rematch with the same outcome as their first fight”, said Kornilov.
If he can’t track Rios down, he’d like to face Marquez, who is coming off a sensational one-punch knockout of Manny Pacquiao.
“If Juan Manuel Marquez won’t defend the belt then we are in line to fight Rios or the next highest rated contender. I know Artie Pelullo is doing everything possible to make this happen. I also know that Amir Khan and Timothy Bradley would like a big fight so we are open to a fight either of them as well anytime! Ruslan has fought live on ESPN Friday Night Fights over ten times and has a strong fan base in the US as well as all over the world. Big networks have showed interest in putting Ruslan on, but now we just have to find someone that will get in the ring with him for what will be a great and exciting fight just like all of his previous fights have been!”
“He is available and we know that Ruslan is ready to win a major fight. He has worked very hard. We know when his name is called to fight one of these big names, not only will he win but will do so in exciting fashion”, said promoter Art Pelullo.
