Rios demolishes Alvarado

Brandon Rios scored an impressive TKO victory over Mike Alvarado on Saturday night, in a one-sided destruction in Alvarado’s backyard of suburban Colorado. The HBO main event was somewhat anti-climactic in nature, as the previous two matches between them were instant fight of the year candidates, unlike the demolition job we witnessed this weekend.
Rios started the match in a blaze of glory, landing nearly 30 bombs in the first round, followed by an impressive offensive assault to the head and body in round two.
Alvarado went down in the third from an accumulation of clean shots, and was clearly a beaten man as he returned to the corner. The match was wisely stopped, and Bam Bam was awarded the victory, and most importantly, the 2-1 advantage in the highly entertaining trilogy between two of boxing’s true warriors.
In the co-feature, unbeaten 168-pounder Gilberto Ramirez earned his 31st straight victory by outhustling Maxim Vlasov over the course of 10 rounds. Ramirez consistently landed crisp jabs, stinging lefts, and sweeping body blows throughout the fight, while Vlasov occasionally scored with short right crosses up the middle. The scorecards read 96-94, 97-93×2 for the Mazatlan mauler, who now looks to continue his quest to become the 1st boxer from south of the border to win the super middleweight title.
