This weekend non-subscribers to Showtime will be able to view the first ShoBox card of 2013 as part of a Free Preview Weekend promotion when former champion Rico Ramos takes on Ronny Rios from the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.
The vacant NABF featherweight title will be up for grabs as the once defeated Ramos (21-1, 11KO) tries to get back into title contention and Rios, (19-0, 9KO) is in the position that Ramos was prior to winning his title; an undefeated contender looking to rise up in the ranks.
Commentator Steve Farhood, who will be calling the action from ringside along with Barry Tompkins and former champion Raul Marquez, weighed in:
“The main event is another classic ShoBox fight with an unbeaten prospect moving up in class against a former world champion,” Farhood said.
“It is an age-old tradition, but in this case Ramos is a younger former world champion and presumably has a lot of fight left in him.
“It’s also crossroads fight because Rios needs to prove he can become a contender and Ramos needs to prove he’s still a top-10 fighter. This is a fascinating style matchup with Rios being the pressure fighter and Ramos the boxer-puncher.
Scheduled as a doubleheader, the lead-in bout will pit Daquan Arnett (9-0, 6 KO’s) taking on Brandon Quarles (10-0-1, 2 KO’s). Arnett fought eight times in 2012 and was shown on both Showtime Extreme and clips were shown of his previous fight on a ShoBox telecast.
Local favorite and undefeated NABO bantamweight champion Randy Caballero will also be showcased, which will mark his eleventh fight at the Fantasy Springs Casino.
Caballero is from nearby Coachella.
Tickets priced at $25, $35 and $45 are available at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, by calling (800) 827-2946 or online at www.fantasyspringsresort.com.
