Earlier today, former middleweight champ Sergio Martinez (51-3-2, 28 KOs) announced his retirement.
Martinez’ was last in the ring in June 2014, when he lost his title to Miguel Cotto via stoppage.
Thanks to all, I am retired. Gracias por todo, aquí termina una etapa de mi vida. Estoy oficialmente retirado. Hasta la victoria siempre.

‘Maravilla’ was one of boxing’s most exciting fighters, but had begun having issues in recent years, particularly with his knees, which did not hold up well in the loss to Cotto, when he went down three times. Despite his best efforts to get back in the ring following surgery, Martinez finally made, what many boxing pundits agree, was the right decision.
After winning the middleweight title in 2010 against Kelly Pavlik, Martinez defended his crown six times, including victories against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Paul Williams and Darren Barker.
