Shumenov scores decision win over Flores

In the main event of Saturday night’s Premier Boxing Champions card in Las Vegas, former light heavyweight titlist Beibut Shumenov (16-2, 10 KOs) scored a unanimous decision win over BJ Flores (31-2-1, 20 KOs) in a cruiserweight bout.
Shumenov came out aggressively from the onset, using movement and inside pressure to throw Flores off his game. Flores meanwhile, stayed busy and fired back whenever Shumenov attempted to take command with counter punches.
Flores appeared to be landing the harder blows but Shumenov looked to stay out of danger until the 12th round when Flores stunned Shumenov on the ropes towards the end of the round, but it was too late.
All three judges scored the fight 116-112.
“Denis Lebedev is my main target. But I want to fight all the best and most dangerous cruiserweights in the world,” said Shumenov.
Earlier on the card, Isiah Thomas earned a 10-round decision win over Jordan Shimmell (19-1, 16 KOs) in a battle of unbeaten fighters.
On the card, fight fans also saw a KO of the Year candidate, as the hard-punching Claudio Marrero (19-1, 14 KOs) scored a brutal knockout of former titlist Rico Ramos (24-5, 12 Kos) in the second round of their fight. Marrero landed a devastating overhand left that sent Ramos crashing down, without the need of a long count.
In the opening bout, Andrew Tabiti (11-0, 10 KOs) earned a lopsided decision win over a grossly out of shape Roberto Santos (12-2, 5 KOs). Scores were 80-72 from all three judges.
