Stevenson heads to Showtime to face Fonfara

The highly anticipated clash between light heavyweight titlists Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev is officially in the gutter, after Stevenson signed a deal with Showtime this week, and will fight Andrzej Fonfara on May 24 in Montreal.
Kovalev has a fight of his own on Saturday night and it was expected that should they both win, they would finally meet in the fall, but that is now on the shelf for the time being.
Stevenson (23-1, 20 KOs) is coming off his first title defense, having earned a TKO win over Tavoris Cloud last September, after Cloud didn’t come out of the corner after the seventh round.
“Superman’s 2013 was a year well beyond all predictions, beyond all imagination so tremendous it was,” GYM president Yvon Michel said. “He rose to the ranks of international superstar, considered to be the best light heavyweight on the planet! It is a privilege to see him in action again here in Montreal.”
