Taylor dethrones Soliman for IBF title

Jermain Taylor 1

Jermain Taylor (33-4-1, 20 KOs), once the undisputed middleweight champion, before losing his title to Kelly Pavlik in 2007 is champion once again, after scoring a unanimous decision win over Sam Soliman (44-12, 18 KOs) at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Taylor, who came in as the underdog, started off slow, as did Soliman, but after flooring the defending champ in the seventh, it was all Taylor.  Soliman injured his leg after going down, and was essentially a one-legged fighter the rest of the way, going down again in the eighth, ninth and eleventh rounds.

Scores were 116-111, 115-109 and 116-109 for Taylor.

On the undercard, Andre Dirrell (23-1, 16 KOs) scored a fourth round TKO over Nick Brinson. Dirrell ripped Brinson with a left hand that left him in bad shape and a series of punches forced a stoppage to the fight moments later.
