WBO welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) completely dominated an overmatched Chris Algieri (20-1, 8 KOs) at the Venetian Resort in Macao, China.

Pacquiao came out aggressively, snapping straight left hands that connected nearly at will, despite Algieri’s height advantage. Algieri looked to establish his own jab from long range but found Pacquiao difficult to hit.  In the second round, Algieri appeared to slip in the corner but was called an official knockdown (it wouldn’t be the only time).

In the sixth round, Pacquiao picked up the pace again and began drilling Algieri all over the ring, knocking him down two times in the round.  In the ninth, Pacquiao put Algieri down three more times, though one was obviously another slip in the wet corner.

Algieri, who was in survival mode, was content to stay away from Pacquiao, while Manny seemed to take his foot off the pedal in the process.

Scores were 119-103, 119-103 and 120-102 for Pacquiao.

After the fight, Pacquiao said he was hoping to score a knockout, which he has failed to do so since his stoppage win over Miguel Cotto in 2009, but said it was due to Algieri’s constant movement.

As usual, Pacquiao was asked about Floyd Mayweather and once again stated that he was ready to fight him next.
