Manny Pacquiao is a national hero in the Philippines. Make no mistake, the future Philippine President is in the fight of his life, and every single Filipino is out to see it.
It is for this reason that against Floyd Mayweather Jr., the pound-for-pound star, the nation will once again unite it its support of Pacquiao. It is now well-known around the world that crimes drop precipitously to unprecedented levels when the “Pac-Man” fights, and even more so for the fight of the century.
A press conference last month, for which 3 More Rounds had a presence with this writer, annnounced that the biggest networks in the Philippines have converged to make the fight available to as many viewers as possible. In a move which is similar to the far-reaching efforts of HBO and Showtime to work together for the fight, GMA, which holds an exclusive contract with Manny Pacquiao, had allowed its rival ABS-CBN, and other local media giant TV5 along with major cable channel Solar Sports the grant to broadcast the biggest sporting event in Philippine history.
Each outlet had gone on a different path in promoting the fight to lead viewers, but a Pacquiao fight is more accessible than ever. The fight they entitled as “Battle for Greatness” looks to reach every single one of the 100 million Filipinos through television, cable, radio, and streaming.
