Pinoy Pride 30: Weights
- Updated: March 27, 2015
3 More Rounds’ very own FJ Parlan was present at the Pinoy Pride 30: D-DAY weigh-in to note down the details for what is the biggest edition of the ALA Promotions’ series yet.
The weights were measured at the Green Gate Entrance of the historic Araneta Coliseum, famous in boxing lore as the site of Ali-Frazier 3: Thrilla in Manila. The milestone event takes place there tomorrow, March 28, starting at 6 PM.
First to come out are Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire and William Prado. Despite questions about the five-division world titlist’s weight in the past few days, both he and his Brazilian foe made the 122 lb. limit. The super bantamweight bout is sanctioned by the WBC through the NABF title.
For the co-main event, there were some weight observers at the stage who looked closer into Donnie “Ahas” Nietes’ weight, especially because the fight is for the WBO title and The Ring lineal world championship at junior flyweight. The champion proved to be 108 lbs., and so did his opponent Gilberto Parra.
Next weighed are AJ “Bazooka” Banal, which against Junior Bajawa does not look to be on the televised portion of the card. He committed the first infraction by going two pounds over the limit, which the Indonesian made, but there is no title on the line for their super bantamweight meeting.
On the main card and for a title at the same weight class (IBF Inter-Continental, though, is between “Prince” Albert Pagara (122 lbs.) and Rodolfo “Fofo” Hernandez (121 lbs.)
For an international title (WBO): Ryo Akaho of Japan makes the bantamweight limit (118). while Prosper Ankrah makes the junior bantamweight limit (113). Weigh-in event host Ronnie Nathanielsz tried to quip that he hopes Ankrah will “prosper” tomorrow, but co-host Ted Lerner said the fighter from Ghana looks very well-conditioned to do so.
Weights for the rest of the card
Lightweight: Tyson Maher, Australia (134 lbs.); Joepher Montano (135)
Bantamweight: Jeson Umbal (118); Eric Panza (118)
Junior Featherweight: Ralph Lulu (124, overweight); Gerry Patenio (122)
