Rigondeaux retains title against Amagasa


Unified junior featherweight champ Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KOs) retained his WBO title against Hisashi Amagasa (28-5-2, 19 KOs) at the Bodymaker Colosseum in Osaka, Japan on Wednesday night.

Rigondeaux started off well, using his speed and combination to get out to an early lead but was put on the canvas twice in the seventh round, when Amagasa came out aggressively.

Having recovered from the seventh, Rigondeaux got back to boxing and began to bust up Amagasa, sending him to the canvas in the 10th round. In the 11th, Rigondeaux continued to beat up on his much taller opponent and after the round, Amagasa remained on his still stool.

At the time of the stoppage, Rigondeaux was up on all three scorecards with scores of 105-101, 107-99 and 107-99. After the bout, Rigondeaux called out Leo Santa Cruz.
