Robert Guerrero vs Danny Garcia set for January 23

Gilroy native Robert Guerrero is set to headline a card at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 knockouts) will return on January 23 to face undefeated former super lightweight champion Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KO) in a welterweight bout on the Premier Boxing Champions series. This will be the first boxing event televised on FOX in close to 20 years.
“If there ever was a fight that defined the word ‘war’, it’s this fight,” Guerrero said in a news release. “What a great way to kick-off the return of primetime boxing on FOX. I guarantee this is going to be a historic fight. A Mexican-American vs. a Puerto Rican-American, it’s a bitter rivalry. Danny Garcia is a great champion and I know we’re going to put on a tremendous show. January 23, it’s going to be fireworks…and I can’t wait!”
Guerrero, 32, last fought in June against Aaron Martinez. Coming off a loss to Keith Thurman three months prior, Guerrero overcame a fourth-round knockout to win a split decision over Martinez at the StubHub Center.
Garcia, 27, is coming off an August ninth-round TKO victory over Paulie Malignaggi.
