Rocky Juarez Seeks to Earn World Title Shot against Castellanos

On Monday, January 26th, former U.S. Olympian and world title challenger Rocky Juarez (30-10-1, 23 KOs) will attempt to move one step forward to another shot at a world title – a distinction which has eluded Juarez throughout his career – when he steps into the ring against featherweight Robinson Castellanos (20-10, 13 KOs). The fight, which will be held at the Cowboys Dancehall in the boxing hotbed of San Antonio, Texas, will be aired live on Fox Sports 1 and is promoted by Golden Boy and Leija-Battah Promotions. Juarez is coming into the fight with two recent victories and is seeking to distance himself from a previous six-fight losing streak which put his career on the rocks. Although Juarez has never earned a world title, he has come close on several occasions against world-class opposition, including Marco Antonio Barrera and Chris John. A victory against Castellanos will put Juarez in line for a shot at Johnny Gonzalez’s WBC featherweight title.

Opposing Juarez is Robinson Castellanos, whose also in the midst of a career resurgence. After starting his career at 5-8, Castellanos has won 12 out of his last 13 fights, including victories over former title holder Celestino Caballero and formerly undefeated prospect Ronny Rios.

The undercard for Monday’s event will feature a litany of local Texas favorites which have previously appeared on Leija-Battah’s popular San Antonio cards. Additionally, St. Louis-area prospect Keandre Gibson (11-0-1, 5 KOs) will square-off with Nelson Lara (15-6-4, 8 KOs) in super lightweight action.
