Shumenov returns to action on December 13

Former light heavyweight titlist Beibut Shumenov is set to get back in the ring on December 13. Shumenov (14-2, 9 KOs) will be taking on Bobby Thomas Jr. (14-2, 9 KOs) in Las Vegas on the undercard of the Golden Boy Promotions card headlined by Amir Khan vs. Devon Alexander.
“I look forward to December 13th and pursuing a world cruiserweight title with Al Haymon in my corner,” Shumenov said.
Shumenov won his first world title in 2010 by outpointing Gabriel Campillo and defended it five times before losing a decision in a unification bout with Bernard Hopkins in April.
The bout with Thomas will be at cruiserweight, where Shumenov hopes to feel rejuvenated.
“I’m happy to be fighting again and moving up to the cruiserweight division,” Shumenov noted. “I don’t have to struggle now to lose 50-plus pounds to make weight for my fights.”
